The National Hockey League (NHL) and Amazon Prime Video have announced the all-new Prime Wednesday Night Hockey for the upcoming 2026-2027 season, with a special media event in downtown Toronto—and I was able to attend.
The new Wednesday night timeslot will effectively replace the previous Prime Monday Night Hockey timeslot, which began in the 2024/2025 season. The Monday Night Hockey timeslot will return to Sportsnet, with David Amber hosting. Alongside the shift to Mondays, Amazon said the games will, for the first time, have both French and English broadcasts.

“Being able to serve Canadian Prime members in both of Canada’s national languages was of utmost importance to us,” said Mark Shopiro, head of Prime Video Canada. “We obviously had the English rights for the last two years and are very, very excited to have the French rights starting on Wednesday night.”
During the event, Amazon also shared the talent roster for both the English and French broadcasts this season. On the English side, John Forslund returns as play-by-play announcer, while Thomas Hickey, Blake Bolden, Chris Pronger, and Jody Shelley return as analysts. Adnan Virk will host this time around, alongside Christine Simpson as the features reporter and Andi Petrillo as the rinkside reporter. There will also be two guest analysts this season: Shane Hnidy and Tyson Nash.

On the French side, Alain Crête and Michael Roy will serve as play-by-play announcers, with analyst Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre. Joining them are Marc-André Perreault as a reporter, Maxime Lalonde as host, and Jean-Sébastien Giguère and Guillaume Latendresse as analysts.
Amazon also shared the Prime Wednesday Night Hockey schedule for this season. The broadcaster will get a grand total of 27 regular-season games, the first-round series in the Stanley Cup playoffs, and one second-round series at no additional cost to Prime members (which is a good thing).

Prime Wednesday Night Hockey makes its debut on September 30, when the Toronto Maple Leafs take on the New York Islanders, which is noted as being a battle of the first-overall draft picks: Gavin McKenna and Matthew Schaefer.
