Trump declares anyone saying AI is ‘the enemy’

This dude just likes the sound of his own voice

In Jamaican Patois, there’s a slang expression that goes “yuh nyam chicken batty,’ which translates into proper English as “you’ve eaten chicken butt.” It’s an expression used to describe someone who’s a chatterbox, loves talking too much, or loves the sound of their own voice. And I think U.S. President Trump is the perfect example of someone who’s eaten a lot of chicken butt.

Trump on his social media network said that anyone who says “artificial intelligence” instead of “super intelligence” is “THE ENEMY.”

“The White House considers anyone that uses the term, “Artificial Intelligence,” as opposed to the highly accepted new and more accurate term, “Super Intelligence,” THE ENEMY! President DONALD J. TRUMP”

The President wrote this post after an executive order that was signed on September 29, telling federal agencies to use “super intelligence” or “SI” in all public statements, websites and reports. The convict-turned-president even got the Justice Department to use this nomenclature on court filings, when appropriate, Reuters reported.

However, getting people to actually use ‘Super Intelligence’ is going to be harder than Trump bargained for. The order is only addressed to federal departments and agencies, and there’s no punishment for using the older term.

And because of free speech, companies, journalists, and the public can keep saying “AI.” Despite this, Elon Musk said his company’s AI unit would be called SpaceXSI. Amazon’s Jeff Bezos told Fox News that he liked ‘SI’ because it’s more flattering than ‘artificial intelligence.”

Either way, this is dumb. Super intelligence/superintelligence is a term that was coined by the philosopher Nick Bostrom. Bostrom said, “any intellect that greatly exceeds the cognitive performance of humans in virtually all domains of interest.” So, I guess it makes sense that Donald Trump might find AI worthy of the term, but for most people, AI ain’t that smart.

While AI is a useful tool, it makes mistakes all the time; I’ve found myself correcting it pretty often, so I wouldn’t consider it ‘superintelligent,’ especially considering it often recycles information that’s been added to the web by people.

This seems like just another moment where Trump just loves to hear himself talk. The president has a history of nonsense rhetoric, with this recent example: “Trump signs order to rename Lake Ontario to ‘Lake America.”
