Public Mobile wants select customers to join Koodo with $50/5GB promo

Telus is aiming to shift customers from one brand to another

But I’m good with $38/Month – 4GB Unlimited Province wide.

    • fruvous

But you’re a bad customer if you don’t raise your ARPU

If they offered more affordable data add-ons, I’d pay for that (1GB for $30 that PM offers isn’t going to cut it).

  • jeneral

One of my referrals received the text. I wonder if PM is trying to get referrals moved to eliminate the discounts.

    • Omis

That is exactly what is happening. All of my referrals, even my wife, got the text but not me.

    • fpinzin

Not exactly. My wife received the offer and she wasn’t referred by anyone.

    • Omis

I can’t think of any other reason why everyone in my family got it but me. We are all on the same plan. Same area. Just I have 13 referrals, while the others do not.

    • fpinzin

Totally understand. Just offering up another data point which, in this case, conflicts with the prevailing theory. Maybe they’re going in reverse order of signup date – newest members first. Who knows.

I won’t ever switch to any big 3 carrier not until they offer Unlimited Data plans for $50-60 bucks per month which includes unlimited north American calling. Unlimited Global text and picture and voicemail and call ID include. Then maybe maybe I’d switch to a big 3 carrier, but until then I’d stick to my current carrier that offers unlimited data for only $50 per month.

    • Marshall Davidson

Haha…Good luck with that. The notion of a $50/$60 unlimited data plan in this country is nothing short of a farce.
Meanwhile, in the U.S. you get unlimited everything for as little as $40 a month. Ridonkulous.

    • Anonymous Agent

It’s not a farce. I currently only pay $50 and get unlimited data with my current carrier here in Ottawa Canada. So ya it’s possible

    • Hello Moto ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Is it truly unlimited data (never throttled) like in the US? Even Freedom throttles to unusable speeds after you go over by 1-2 GB. U.S. carriers do not throttle unlimited data, mostly because they aren’t allowed to. The U.S. has more consumer friendly regulations than Canada.

    • Anonymous Agent

Yes I get fully Unlimited Data. And I’ve never been throttled

    • Hello Moto ✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

      What carrier are you using?

    • Daniel Leith

      Who is your carrier?

    • Stan

      Yeah right

    • Mike

Yeah because they are selling at a lose to get customers. The plan will go away if they get enough of the service will go under.

  • TheTechSmith

    IT’S A TRAP!
I got offered this – but you’d have to be in a special situation to want it.
I’m actually paying $37/month now for 4GB province wide talk due to auto-pay discount and a reference. This goes down $1 every year of loyalty also.
With calls to out of province costing $15/400 minutes (that carries over month-to-month until you use it up), the change would only make sense if you are talking out of province for more than about 300 minutes every month.
Of course you get the extra GB as well, and if you need it you need it.

Beginning of the end of Public Mobile as a true alternative. I have a feeling Telus is trying to make public mobile a very basic service, and will only offer 3G data plans in the future. I believe they want to turn it into their own version of Chatr.

  • Swinada

and why can I as a loyal many year Koodo customer not get a plan like this? if i want this kind of data i have to pay 85.- plus taxes every month.
