Is this our first look at the BlackBerry DTEK70?

BlackBerry

BlackBerry’s latest TCL Corporation-built smartphone, the upcoming DTEK70 has surfaced again, this time courtesy of several new leaked slides and renders.

While it’s impossible to verify the authenticity of the images (some of them do look a bit suspect), they give a decent indication of what BlackBerry’s next Android-powered smartphone could look like.

One of the images specifically calls out the phone’s keyboard integrated fingerprint sensor, a feature BlackBerry was awarded a patent for recently and one that is supposed to debut on the DTEK70.

Even if the renders are a bit suspect, BlackBerry is definitely preparing to release a mid-range QWERTY keyboard device. Alex Thurber, the company’s senior vice president of global device sales, told the BBC on October 6th that “there will still be a keyboard-based BlackBerry device, designed and distributed within the next six months.”

Moreover, a BlackBerry device codenamed Mercury, likely the smartphone Thurber mentions in his BBC interview, recently appeared on Geekbench. According to the benchmark, the upcoming smartphone features an octa-core Qualcomm processor clocked to 2.02GHz, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable storage, 3,400mAh battery, 4.5-inch HD display and an 18-megapixel rear-facing camera. It’s also the first BlackBerry device set to ship with Android Nougat.
