Apple announced the HomeView on Tuesday, showing off a new product category for the Cupertino tech giant. While both the Apple HomeView and the wall-mounted variant cost $429, the wall mount comes separately and will cost you at least $80.
Head over to apple.com/ca and go to the Apple HomeView (wall-mounted) to see the options for yourself. After selecting the colour in the pre-order process, you’ll need to decide how you will wall-mount the device.
There are three wall-mount accessories, sold separately, and which offer slightly different capabilities. There’s the Power Mount USB-C Wall Connector, which you can install yourself, for $79.95. There’s also a Power Mount AC Wired for $109.95, and lastly, a Power Mount PoE Wired, which delivers power-over-Ethernet, for $179.95. Apple advises getting a licensed electrician to install the last two options.
Notably, there is a ‘No Mount’ option, but below the text reads, “Apple Homeview (Wall Mounted) requires a mount and power solution to operate.” While it costs nothing to go this route, you better be able to figure out your own wall-mount and power options.
After you pick a mount, Apple will offer a 40W Dynamic Power Adapter for $55. You don’t have to pick an adapter, but the text below the ‘no adapter’ option says, “Apple HomeView (Wall Mounted) requires a power adapter (minimum 20W).”
The table-top version of HomeView comes with a USB-C cable and a 30W USB-C power adapter in the box, and there’s no need to mount it thanks to the speaker base. Frankly, it’s a bit crazy that the wall-mount HomeView costs the same (or more with a mount) despite coming with less stuff overall.
