Freedom Mobile is giving all monthly mobile data plans access to Canada/U.S./Mexico data coverage at no extra cost.
In an announcement sent to MobileSyrup on Nov. 5, the carrier said it would update eligible customers’ data plans starting on Dec. 8. In a follow-up email to MobileSyrup, Freedom noted that some “more niche plans, such as pay-per-use data plans,” will eventually get converted as well, but it won’t happen on Dec. 8.
“There are no changes to customers’ monthly price or recurring data allotment. Instead, customers will benefit from a simpler experience, using their included data seamlessly across Canada, the United States and Mexico without daily roaming fees or the need to swap SIM cards while travelling,” Freedom said.
Notably, Freedom has offered plans with Canada/U.S./Mexico data for a while now, as well as other roaming benefits like Roam Beyond data and unlimited talk and text in over 120 global destinations.
However, for customers on older Freedom plans that might not have the Canada/U.S./Mexico coverage, this is a major win. It also aligns with some of Freedom’s other benefits, like the carrier’s ‘Price Freeze Promise,” which pledges not to increase customers’ wireless rates as long as they keep their plan.
This comes after Freedom said it was “gearing up to switch on its wireless network in Manitoba” last month as it continues a push to expand its Canadian network.
