The Xreal 1 Pro+: better image quality and 2D-to-3D conversion

Xreal is launching new AR glasses called the Xreal 1 Pro+. The 1 Pro+ launches globally on October 15 and will be available through Xreal.com

The new model now features the X1 spatial computing chip, native 3DoF spatial anchoring, and a 57-degree field of view. The screen reaches up to 1,200 nits of peak brightness from 700 nits and also includes AI HDR to improve the perceived image quality across supported content. Standard, Movie and Reading viewing modes, so you can control how the content is presented.

The Xreal also upgraded the 2D-to-3D conversion capability from 30fps to 60fps, delivering smoother motion when viewing converted spatial content. This means that any 2D content can be seen smoothly in 3D.

The 1 Pro+ has a new ergonomic nose pad system for better stability and comfort while helping users keep a consistent field of view. The Xreal 1 Pro+ is available globally on October 15 at Xreal for US$599 (C$850).

I’ve used the Xreal 1 Pro+ for a short flight to New York. I liked watching content; using the 2D-to-3D conversion was also pretty interesting. Some content, like Drag Race, worked really well. It was pretty crazy, all of a sudden, watching a YouTube video in 3D.

But I watched Phantom Blade Zero gameplay, and the rapid movements would occasionally show some artifacts. It was cool, though, that it was able to showcase the RPG in 3D, even though it wasn’t perfect. I also thought it was comfortable enough to wear for the entire hour pretty easily. I liked that you can black out the world around you, control how far away the display is and how big it is.

I would need to spend more time putting the Xreal 1 Pro+ through its paces, but so far they are a pretty cool pair of AR glasses.
