Will Google ever learn? Experience and consistency > fragmentation.

    xt720 and stuck on 2.1

    so disappointing

    • zorxd

Anybody who bought the XT720, or any other low-end, low-marketing device that released only on minor carriers and who thought that the manufacturer would care about him is a fool.
Really, it was written in the sky that the XT720 would never get any update.

  • brendon

    2.3.3 on my galaxy s

  • sookster54

Why is Gingerbread so freaking low?

@zorxd I agree with!!! Wind got those fools to buy into that garbage and touted it as their flagship Android device!!!

One thing I noticed is that there are never any Android updates for the small 3 companies only the big 3!! Which is why I would never buy a phone directly from one of these carriers!!!!

  • gmd

    2.2.1 on Optimus

  • Spraynard Krueger

2.1 on the Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate (For Verizon). No telling when or if we’re even going to see Froyo 🙁

  • Phil R

I got 2.1 on my cute little x10 mini, and I’m happy with it! (though I would like a little update with multi touch, even though the screen is small)

  • Stuntman

Just FYI, the data is “based on the number of Android devices that accessed Android Market within a 14-day period” ending on March 15, 2011. If you had not accessed the market at that time, your phone is not counted.

The information is geared more towards developers, so they have an idea of their target market. Everything is forward compatable. If your app is developed for 1.5, it will work for everything afterwards as well. If your app is developed for 3.0, it will likely only work for 0.2% of the users who had visited the market in that two week period.

  • TheCyberKnight

    Interesting numbers.
What about the 35% of devices running with an OS version below 2.1? Will they eventually get updated or will they just deprecate? I suspect the later.
Do you think some OEMs just don’t care about updating the devices and assume people will buy new ones?

  • chulamin

2.2.1 on Desire HD. Has some issues. Waiting for 2.3.

  • Evan

    2.3.3 on Nexus One

  • robot-shmobot

    2.3.3 on Nexus One.
I wanna see the iOS fragmentation numbers, I bet there’s a big piece of pie for iOS 3 and all those pissy 3G owners.

  • Nick

Got 2.1 on my Xperia X10. It’s ok, though I wish I could do flash and app2sd. I’m also afraid that soon most apps will need 2.2+.

Next time I should get a Nexus.
