Go straight to Google Photos with new Camera shortcut on Android

Google Photos was announced last year as a unified home for all your photos stored with Google. Since then, the company has been taking steps towards making its apps the only ones you need to use to manage your photographs.

This week, in the Google Photos app on Android, users have been noticing a new card in the Assistant tab. This card prompts users to add a shortcut to jump from the Camera app directly to Google Photos.

Enable the option, and taking a photo will cause a thumbnail to appear that will take you straight to that picture in Google Photos. It’s an interesting shortcut, and users who would prefer not to use the stock Gallery app on their phone can now skip straight to Google’s preferred photo management app.
