iPhone 4 now available at all Koodo Mobile locations in Canada

Toronto and Vancouver locations were the first places Koodo Mobile customers were able to grab the iPhone 4, and it’s now available at all stores across Canada. Certainly not a new device but a welcomed addition to their growing smartphone lineup. Even though Koodo says “there are no fixed-term contracts to sign”, the iPhone 4 brought on in a different way. Customers have typically been only to purchase outright or on their Tab system. When the iPhone 4 came on board it was released for $500 on the Tab and a newly created 3-year contract price ($160). The iPhone (and future iPhone models) will probably be the only device that gets slotted into this category.

  1. good for Koodo, but honestly a little (too) late given that the next iteration of iDidItAgain comes in a few months from now

  2. Buying iPhone from Koodo either using Tab or 3 year contract is the biggest mistake someone can make.

  3. Wow, old habits die hard. Even the no-contract subsidiary is handing out 3 year contracts.

    • It’s not a catch. You can do that OR the $150 tab and not be locked into any contract, i.e.: you could go with the Data Saver and be on a $30-$40 plan with all the basics. Depending what you need either one could be to your benefit.

That said, I’m not sure why they’re bringing it on. I guess Telus would rather people sign with Koodo and make a little less money for them than go to Fido or something.

  5. It’s actually not available in all locations in Canada. Koodo in Thunder Bay only runs on CDMA towers.

  7. It ends up being the same, a tab or no tab. If you break the “contract” or renew before the 3 years term is up, you just pay up the balance of the rebate that they gave you.

    • Only in Quebec it is like that…in most other provinces, you still have to pay an ETF in order to get out of your contract. That’s why the tab is a good idea in other provinces, not as much in Quebec.

    • John: with parent company Telus, the termination penalty is tied into the device balance regardless of what province you are in. This changed as of any contract signed/renewed after November 21, 2010.

  8. Well Telus made it a national thing, not only in quebec, as far as I remember. So potentially, it’s the same thing with koodo, as they are owned by telus afterall.

  9. confirmed : http://koodomobile.com/en/on/iPhone.shtml

“If you decide to cancel before then, you simply have to pay the remaining balance on the discount you received on the purchase of your iPhone.”

  13. Can someone link me the termination policies for Telus? Doesnt really matter since im a rep in Quebec but still worth telling these contract-fearing nutbars that look at cell phone companies like a plague-ridden hobo.

  14. If you’re a sales rep and you need us to link you the policies you’re supposed to explain to all your clients, then maybe you shouldn’t be a rep.

  15. Best Buy hasn’t received the phones yet and frankly. I really think the Iphone 4 with kood is terrible especially on the 3 year as there are only two plans available for it both of which are inferrior to all of the other plans out there!!!

  16. Worst part is, ppl will STILL buy this phone despite it being over a year old and the new one coming out in a few months.

    • It would be beneficial to at least wait and see what the new version has going for it, so the two could be compared plus a potential price drop for the iPhone 4. (i.e. 3GS price drop when the iPhone 4 came out).

  17. Apple forces all carriers around the world to subsidize its iphone. Hence, the contract. There is no way Koodo could have sold the iphone just with their tab. Look around and show me a mobile firm where you can buy an iphone unsubsidized and they offer no contract.

  18. LOL who cares if the phone is a yr old.. So all the people buying the IPHONE 5 will be stupid for buy it because the iphone 6 comes out a yr later? LIKE wtf… Buying electronics is all the same, its just like a car.. after you drive it off the lot, there will be a newer and better one 6 months down the road. The demand for I phone is still huge.. Hell i still see Iphone 3GS being offered out there.. Koodo is the ONLY carrier that gives you an OPTION for Iphone.. You can buy and Iphone on the TAB for 15 dollars NO DATA and still be paying 16.95 a month if thats your joy.
