Earlier today we received an e-mail from our friends at Samsung that promotes their Back-to-School product lineup. In it was the Samsung R580 notebook, ML-1665 printer, PL 150 digital camera, a washer and a dryer and the recently launched Samsung Wave and Galaxy S Vibrant. In addition, at the very bottom was an unreleased and unannounced device that confirms it’s coming to Canada soon.
The Samsung Galaxy Apollo was rumoured to be launching with TELUS and with this news it seems to be true… the question now is when is the official release date and what’s the pricing. The description gives a bit more insight into this new Android but this device is known to have a 3.2-inch AMOLED display, WiFi, 5 megapixel camera that record 720p videos, Swype. No word on which Android OS but most likely it’s 2.1.
We’ll have more info soon.
When is Telus going to announce a Galaxy S model????
What happened at their event in Toronto on Aug 12th?

This is crap compared to the vibrant that bell has. I was hoping Telus would get that because the Desire is dated. Oh well, looks like i’ll be waiting longer for the right android on telus.

The desire is not dated it was released in march 2010 in Europe.

March is most definitely dated, in the mobile phone world. HTC is apparently due to announce the Desire HD in September.

How can there possibly be no free GPS navigation? Google supplies a really good one, you just need to update the stock Google Maps if it’s not on there.

@Graham the Desire isn’t that old. The Galaxy S has a nicer screen (but not that big of a difference in my opinion), and it has better GPU. So if you are going to use it for games, the Galaxy S is better, though I don’t know if there are many games on Android that really make a difference.

Is the absence of Captivate on the list significant? I hope not – waiting for it!

It’s unbelievable that Telus wouldn’t be all over the Galaxy S like every US provider and most Global providers as well as Bell and Rogers (their two biggest competitors). If they at least announced the intention of carrying a Galaxy S device in the near future instead of staying completely quiet and non-committal in their responses (if you’re lucky to get one from them) they could appease the masses and I for one would wait it out a little longer. The Galaxy S has so much more to offer than the Desire (screen quality, screen size, DIVX support, DLNA networking, and Wireless N router capabilities to name a few). If the Galaxy S is a smart phone, the Apollo is it’s retarded cousin! I’ve had it with waiting for them and will spend the next week trying to get the best deal I can elsewhere…good riddance Telus!

Yeah, Telus should carry the Galaxy S, but nothing wrong with waiting for a bit while Samsung figures out the GPS problem. That problem is a real black mark on an otherwise great phone, and on Samsung reputation if they don’t fix properly.
Meanwhile the Desire sounds like a great phone to me.
And the Apolo sounds like a worthwhile addition to their lineup if it is priced according to its specs. Nothing wrong with having a mid-range Android phone.

A Telus retention rep told me last week they would be carrying the Galaxy, but he couldn’t confirm any details until an official announcement. Perhaps he was confused and thought this was the same thing?

I work at TELUS, and we are getting a Galaxy S type device.
But no more details have been given to us.
And guys, TELUS was the first to say yes to the Galaxy but then decided to back away unsure of how the market woudl react to this device…look who has shot himself in the foot now.
The Apollo will do well because it will be priced well.
