WIND held a “Twitterview” today with VP of Core Network, Ante Rupcic. We were following the Tweets and a few people asked when an Android device will be available on WIND. Rupcic stated “Soon. I’m testing one right now actually. So far so good.”
There’s been talk about WIND bringing on a Motorola device, possibly the HTC Magic+ or even Google’s Nexus One. What do you think it’ll be?

Given that Wind is using AWS, isn’t that going to limit the possibilities?
It’s a real shame really. We haven’t had a decent independent opperator in Canada since the early days of ClearNET and Fido– and it’s stuck on a network that’s not “world phone” friendly. =/

I don’t see where he meant “we are gonna offer one”. Lot of people use devices that WIND don’t sell, like N900 or Nexus One (T).
Maybe he is one of these that can’t stand the choice of device WIND offers (neither do I)

I’m guessing the nexus one will be too expensive to bring over, BUT, if I pay $530 USD, plus shipping and handling fees (around $100) and with conversion I end up paying $650 or so Canadian, I think Wind could do a lot better than that.
If they were able to order a whole ton of them and sell them for around $500 Canadian, it would be a steal in comparison to the $450 blackberry bold.
I just hope they don’t bring a really old and out dated android phone. I’d like to see something still supported that will get the froyo 2.2 update.

It’s most likely the Nexus One since it is available with T-Mobile bands. Hopefully it is less than the Google pricing.

Rog, Are you kidding? If anything AWS has more Android phones than they know what to do with.
The first Android devices in North America was AWS phone from T-Mobile.
There is probably 20 different Android models that has AWS. Here’s the ones I can name
HTC Dream (G1)
HTC Magic (myTouch)
HTC Hero
HTC/Google Nexus One
T-Mobile myTouch Slide
Motorola CLIQ/DEXT
Motorola CLIQ XT/QUENCH
Motorola Backflip
Motorola Milestone XT720
Samsung Galaxy 7500
Samsung Galaxy S
Sansung BEHOLD II
Sony Ericsson X10
Dell Streak 5
Garmin-Asus Garminfone
Huawei
I’m sure I’ve forgotten a few. But there is no lack of Android options on AWS thanks to T-Mobile’s early involvement with Android phones.

The Dext, Quench and Non-American Backflip are 1900/2100 devices and are not compatible with Wind. Only the T-Mobile US Versions are.

Sorry, let me reword that. Only the US versions are. Not the T-mobile US versions.

A quite lookup of GSMArena.com will tell you there are plenty of AWS android handsets out there. Seeing as this is WIND mobile however, I doubt we’ll see something high-end on the first go around.

@Eric $530 USD is the price of the Nexus One without contract. If WIND sell it, it needs to be under $500 CAD.

Perhaps the Samsung Galaxy S? I’ve heard rumours that it will be launching on T-Mobile soon. Perhaps up here as well?

if Huawei has one it’ll probably be that. lol
But seriously, they will probably start with a cheaper one, then if the demand is there(which it is for sure) maybe they will add a couple more. Blackberry was limited to the Bold because at the time of launch, it was the only one capable of AWS, that isnt the case with Android.

I think I’d like to see Samsung Galaxy S more than any other.

Google is closing their online store that sells the Nexus One in the comming months. Hence, it will be sold by either carriers or electronics retailers.
This might be a hint towards that…

Rumour has it that the Huawei u8800 might be coming. The specs are pretty good and it’s a new phone (not released yet), but the quality of the huawei devices is apparently terrible based on the ones Wind currently has.
