Amazon celebrates May the Fourth with Star Wars-themed Alexa features

Star Wars A New Hope Luke Leia and Han

Every year, May the 4th marks Star Wars Day, a celebration of the long-running beloved space opera franchise.

To commemorate the occasion, Amazon has announced a series of Star Wars-themed features for Alexa, Echo and Prime Music for users to play around with.

Firstly, Alexa users will be able to ask the voice assistant to offer some Star Wars-related trivia, jokes or even opinions, including:

  • “Alexa, tell me a Star Wars joke”
  • “Alexa, tell me a Star Wars limerick”
  • “Alexa, aren’t you a little short for a storm trooper?”
  • “Alexa, what’s the Jedi Code?”
  • “Alexa, come to the dark side”
  • “Alexa, I am your father”
  • “Alexa, who is your favourite Star Wars character?”
  • “Alexa, can you talk like Yoda?”

Those interested in hearing some of the iconic music of Star Wars can also ask Alexa to ‘play the ‘Music of John Williams’ playlist on Prime Music” on an Echo device or within the Amazon Music app for iOS and Android.

A premium Amazon Prime membership is required to access this feature, although those who aren’t subscribed to the service can also register for a 30-day trial period to try it out.

This isn’t the first time Amazon has celebrated pop-culture with themed smart speaker features. For this year’s Pokémon Day celebration in February, the company released a free Amazon Echo app that let users talk to Pikachu.

More recently, the company also announced a collaboration with Bandai Namco to offer the choose-your-own-adventure experience Pac-Man Stories for Alexa.
