BlackBerry Priv now available to pre-order for $899 CAD, ships November 6th

After months of leaked images and videos, then teasing by the CEO, BlackBerry has officially gone live with pre-orders for its Android-powered smartphone.

The Priv — which represents “BlackBerry’s heritage and core mission of protecting our customers’ privacy” — is reportedly the most secure Android smartphone on the market. Running Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, the Priv has a 5.43-inch 2560 x 1440 display , under which is a physical QWERTY touch sensitive keyboard on a sliding mechanism.

The LTE-enabled Priv is also powered by 1.8 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor with 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage and a 3410mAh non-removable battery that claims to give up to 22.5 hours of use. On the back is a 18-megapixel shooter with OIS that captures 4K videos, along with a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.

Pre-loaded on the Priv will be an app called DTEK, a security suite “designed to help you manage and protect your privacy.” BlackBerry promises it will tell you “which apps access your personal data and shows the overall security of your device based on factors such as the strength of your password, your encryption settings and the apps you have installed.”

As for pricing, BlackBerry has listed the Priv at $899 CAD through its online store. The device will begin shipping from its warehouse on November 6th.

Several Canadian carriers will also be adding the Priv to its lineup, including Bell and Rogers.
