Telus is facing an outage impacting its mobile network, particularly phone calls, as of around 9 a.m. ET on Nov. 5.
MobileSyrup received some reports from readers impacted by the outages, and some of our writers have also confirmed issues with phone and voicemail services, but problems appear to be sporadic.
Moreover, outage tracker Downdetector saw a spike in outage reports starting shortly before 9 a.m. ET, with the map showing reports concentrated in Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver.
MobileSyrup has reached out to Telus regarding the issues and will update this story with additional details the carrier provides.
However, the carrier’s own outage website details multiple problems across Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, and B.C. These include wireless outages as well as problems impacting home phone, internet, and TV services. Most of these started in November, though some of the listed outages date back to October or even the summer.
Ontario
Telus reported a “degradation of wireless services” that started at 9:39 a.m. in Maidstone and Tecumseh, Ont. Data, text, voice, and 911 are all impacted.
The carrier says it offers 911 wireless fallback that uses other carriers’ networks in the area, but notes that customers may need to set their mobile device network to automatic in order for it to work.
Also in Ontario, around the Ottawa area, Telus reported a wireless services failure impacting voice calls, but only when calling landlines.
Quebec
A Nov. 4 outage linked to a damaged cable is ongoing but could be fixed as early as the afternoon of Nov. 5, according to the Telus outage page. This outage impacts data, voice, and text services in Chateauguay, Kahnawake, Lery, Mercier, Saint-Constant, and Saint-Remi.
Alberta
