Leak reveals mid-range specs for new Asus ZenFone

As CES draws closer, more companies will start teasing their big announcements in an effort to generate excitement for their 2015 roadmaps. This morning, Asus started teasing its newest ZenFone. No doubt the company was hoping for two weeks to capitalize on the intrigue and anticipation. However, it looks like some Bluetooth certification documents have let the cat out of the bag already.

Android Police points to this document over on Bluetooth SIG (Special Interest Group) that was filed by Asustek Computer Inc. It describes a new device as “the successor of hot selling smartphone model- ZenFone” with “outstanding photo and video quality.” The description of the device also lays out some of the specs, so we now know just what to expect from the new ZenFone in terms of hardware. This is how Asus’s newest phone is shaping up:

  • 4.5-inch 480 x 854 display
  • Dual-core Intel CPU
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 5MP camera
  • 0.3MP front-facing camera
  • 2100mAh battery
  • Android 4.4
  • ZenUI

This is very much an entry-level phone and it fits right in with last year’s ZenFones, which were introduced at CES in January of this year and did entry-level to mid-range in a variety of sizes.

That said, it’s important to note that we don’t know the name of this phone, when it’s going to be announced or if it will be the only phone unveiled at CES (there were three Zenfones at CES 2014, as well as a couple of devices under Asus’s Vibe brand). Hopefully Asus has something a bit more exciting in store for us, too.
