SimpleSyrup: App updates for the week ended December 19th

App updates galore! Every week, developers push out updates to your favourite applications. There’s just too many for us to dedicate an individual post to every app, especially when the updates are often very minor or just to add one specific feature.

This week we saw a massive update for Instagram on both iOS and Android, as well as a pretty huge update for 500px that adds a camera for iPhone users. Facebook is now auto-enhancing photos uploaded by iOS and Kik has a new group feature called Hashtags, Check out the lists below for more app updates!


Bing for iPad — Brings a new browser extension that translates webpages automatically as well as bug fixes

Bing for iPhone — Redesigned home screen with easier navigation and access to tending stories, weather, and other topics

Adobe Illustrator Line — Expanded stylus support for FiftyThree Pencil and Wacom’s Intuos Creative stylus, as well auto save, enhancements to the UI, and bug fixes

Adobe Photoshop Sketch — expanded stylus support for FiftyThree Pencil and Wacom’s Intuos Creative stylus, as well auto save, size control for drawing tools, and bug fixes

Photo Sphere Camera — Explore tab that allows you to see other photographers spheres, associate your spheres with Google Maps locations

Yahoo — Addition of local news, comments, and a new side-swipe navigation

Yahoo Weather — Updated for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, animated effects for lightning and frost, bug fixes and performance improvements

Drafts 4 — New Today widget with recent drafts, new URL action steps, fix for display bug in drafts, bettering syncing and refresh

XimDisplay support for browser, Xbox One, Google Chromecast, AppleTV, Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick and you can now set expiration for Xims to one hour

Fleksy — GIF keyboard, extensions, branded themes, a numbers row, cursor control, long press for punctuation with animations, improved single character input, fixes for autocorrect bugs and hidden accented characters

Instagram — Five new filters, ability to rearrange filters

500px — new photo capture through dedicated camera, support for Lightroom, new upload functionality, support for 1Password, support for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus


Yahoo — Local news, support for comments, side-swipe navigation

Yahoo Weather — Animated effects for frost and lightning, snow, fog, heat and rain.

Instagram — Five new filters, ability to rearrange filters based on preference

XimDisplay support for browser, Xbox One, Google Chromecast, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, ability to set Xim expiration to one hour

Google Cloud Print — updated UI for Material, plus bug fixes and stability, ability to track status of print jobs, share a picture or document from the gallery, process print invitations


Tales of Borderlands — New on the Play Store

Angry Birds Epic — Player vs player battle, customizable teams, weekly leagues

Secret — New UI, ability to chat privately with other users, support for photos in posts

Google Opinion Rewards — Updated to Material Design

Fleksy — Branded keyboards, GIF keyboard, number line, support for extensions, long press for punctuation, and more

Todoist — Support for Android Wear, ability to open Todoist URLs within the app, improvements to task viewing

Windows Phone

Runtastic Me — New on the Windows Store. Step tracking, tracking of calories burned, ability to set goals, daily stats and challenges

GoPro — Support for Hero4, ability to add HiLight tags during recording, updated video of the day and photo of the day feeds

Video Memories — New transition effects, faster video creation, 100 free themed photo frames, support for 512MB devices

Xim Display support for browser, Xbox One, Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, ability to set Xims to expire after one hour

Duolingo — Support for Irish and Swedish

Shazam — Back on Windows Phone with new recognition engine, faster start up, new UI for Windows Phone 8.1, new song pages

Fitbit — New app for Windows Phone users, with support for Surge, the ability to track heart rate, support for quick calorie add, barcode scanning, New graphs, refinements to food logging, minor bug fixes


BlackBerry Blend — support for timed messages, message retraction, as well as BBM Protected

Whine — Updates to II, ability to follow channels, ability to receive notifications when your favourite users post

ReadItNow! — Support for BlackBullet, show favicon in list or grid, favourite list in grid or list, share articles directly to BlackBullet, and general improvements
