Shaw looking for “Mobile Application Developer” with iPhone and Android experience

After much anticipation and a couple years in the making Videotron launched their new 3G+ network today. They were one of the wireless carriers to watch and came out with a good lineup of devices with several unique price plans. In addition, over the past few months we’ve seen new entrants Wind Mobile, Public Mobile and Mobilicity launch their services.

The focus can somewhat shift to the West where Calgary-based Shaw is currently building out their network and putting their plans into action. During the 2008 spectrum auction Shaw spent $189 million and won 18 licences and plan to launch late 2011. It seems they’re ramping up the hiring as there are open positions all over the place. One that popped up today is a “Mobile Application Developer” that’s part of the “Innovation and Imagination team”. A key qualification is to have “iPhone and Android development experience”. There is already one iPhone app called “Shaw Video on Demand” app… so either we’ll see those devices or a bunch more Shaw apps. Also, Shaw is holding a Wireless Open House in Toronto on September 23rd specifically for IT and Engineers. To entice them they’re giving away an Apple iPad.
