Lenovo to announce another crazy hangable Yoga tablet at IFA

When it was first announced in 2013, Lenovo’s Yoga Tablet instantly became one of the most unique tablets—Android or otherwise—available on the market. With its unique design, the tablet managed to turn heads, but its underpowered internals made it a hard device to recommend. In 2014, the company released a successor, the Yoga Tablet 2 Pro, that improved on the fundamentals, and even added some fun new features.

Now it appears that Lenovo is set to release an even more unique take on the traditional slate tablet.

Two images that come courtesy of Malaysian Twitter account @upleaks, source of several high quality leaks in the past, reportedly show the next iteration of the Yoga Tablet.

The first, and more interesting of the two images, seems to suggest that Lenovo has moved the placement of the tablet’s camera to its signature hinge. There could be some interesting . It’s not clear from either of the leaked images if some of the Yoga Tablet 2 Pro’s more inventive features, like it’s built-in pico projector and subwoofer, will make a return with the Yoga Tablet 3.

The second image shows a device that looks slightly different to the one pictured in the first image. Unlike the first device, it doesn’t appear that this version of the Yoga Tablet features a camera built into its hinge. Moreover, the aesthetics of the two devices are different, with the latter featuring a different hinge design.

Without being able to read Simplified Chinese characters, it’s possible to make out that Lenovo is promising that the latter device will be able to operate for about 20 hours on a single charge. If true, that means that the Yoga Tablet 3 will improve on its predecessor’s already excellent battery life. In our review of the Yoga Tablet 2 Pro, we found that its 9600mAh power cell was consistently able to power the device for about 15 hours of significant use.

According to @upleaks, Lenovo plans to announce or release the tablet at IFA in Berlin, Germany. The annual tech conference and trade show is set so start on September 4, and several device manufacturers, including Sony and Samsung, are rumoured to be preparing major announcements. Samsung, in particular, has already teased that it will announce the Gear S2 at the tech show.
