God of War Laufey has been delayed to May 20, 2027. The game was originally set to launch on PS5 on Feb. 16.
In a social media post, developer Santa Monica Studio said it will make the most of this extra time by “putting in the finishing touches and pushing the game to its fullest potential.” It added that it will be back to share updates “soon.”

Originally announced in June, God of War Laufey is the next mainline entry in the long-running action series, and it’s the first to star someone other than Kratos. Instead, you play as the titular warrior, Kratos’ wife (a returning Deborah Ann Woll), immediately after she passes on into the “Everywhen” afterlife at the beginning of 2018’s God of War. Laufey‘s narrative will then run concurrently with both the 2018 game and 2022’s God of War Ragnarök and follow Faye as she seeks a way home while protecting Kratos and their son Atreus from afar.
Gameplay-wise, combat looks to marry the tight, up-close-and-personal action of the modern games and the more frenetic, ground-and aerial-based battles of the original Greek-era God of War titles. Laufey also promises to introduce a variety of mythologies, including Egyptian and Mongolian.
With this delay, fantasy fans won’t have to choose between Laufey and the long-awaited Fable reboot, the latter of which is set to launch on Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC on Feb. 18. PlayStation’s next big first-party game, meanwhile, is Until Dawn 2, which launches on Jan. 28, 2027.
