Rogers has announced that it is taking its satellite-to-mobile coverage internationally, bringing the service to Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.
“Canadians want to stay connected wherever their travels take them,” writes Mark Kennedy, Rogers’ Chief Technology Officer. “With satellite-to-mobile roaming in Japan, Australia, and New Zealand, we’re extending coverage to more destinations around the world so customers can stay connected when travelling abroad.”
Rogers notes that the launch expands its international satellite-to-mobile roaming footprint to four countries, after expanding service to the US earlier this year.
Rogers also uses Elon Musk’s Starlink to operate its satellite-to-mobile service. Using Starlink, customers can access apps like WhatsApp, Messenger, and X (god forbid you need to send a tweet in the middle of nowhere), along with Google Maps, AllTrails, and weather updates from AccuWeather.
The telecom giant notes in the press release that international satellite-to-mobile roaming is included in the $100/mo Ultimate plans, alongside eligible Roam Like Home options and select Travel Passes (International and International + Cruises).
