Public Mobile recently started selling their wireless service in 60 Gateway Newstands in Toronto (Montreal will be launching soon). In addition, they are currently doing a trial in select Toronto Money Mart locations. Today they expanded their distribution reach by 4 more locations in the Toronto area by partnering up with Eyeshot Media.
Don’t be surprised if you’ve never heard of Eyeshot before, they operate a digital TV network and have billboards located at checkout counters in various retail locations. These 4 locations (2 Starbank Convenience locations, 247 Convenience and Astro Variety) have a couple Public Mobile devices for sale and it’s a self serve, grab and go model. There will be more locations added over the next few months and apparently as part of the deal Public Mobile ads continually run on the screen behind the counter.
This is just another way that carriers are ending up where you shop. Distribution is key and these next few months will be critical for the carriers.
