Telus and Norton have announced a new security feature for Telus customers called Telus Scam Protection.
The new feature will provide “comprehensive scam protection” across calls, texts, and emails in all-new data plans. Alongside features that help identify and block scam calls, the features can also flag suspicious messages and give customers access to a 24/7 on-demand chat system.
Those features are:
- Safe Call: helps identify suspicious calls and can automatically block calls that are identified as scams and label incoming calls as scams, spam, or a verified business.
- Safe SMS: can automatically review incoming text messages that appear to be scams or phishing attempts. However, it doesn’t delete them; instead, it marks them with a warning label.
- Safe Email: does something similar, scanning a customer’s inbox on their phone and labels messages that look like scams, phishing, or fake invoices, and also gives customers a warning before clicking any links. Telus says you can connect five supported email accounts.
- AI Scam Assistant: can provide 24/7 information on scams and cyber safety. Customers can ask questions if they think they are being scammed, want general guidance, or need product-related assistance. You can also paste text or upload screenshots of suspicious messages and links to get help checking for potential threats, including messages from apps like iMessage, WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook Messenger.
Built into the My Telus app, Telus says that the Scam Protection tool only needs to be activated once, and then runs in the background.
The telecom giant notes that Telus Scam Protection is included at no additional cost with new data plans, but existing customers can add it by switching to an eligible plan or adding it to their existing plan for $3/mo.
