Amazon has announced plans to hire 9,000 seasonal employees in Canada this holiday season.
The e-commerce giant is looking to fill roles across 55 Canadian sites, including fulfillment centres, sortation centres, and delivery stations. It adds that the average hourly base wage for seasonal roles is nearly $24, with roles including select benefits on day one, including mental health and wellbeing support and a new 10 per cent discount on grocery and daily essentials purchases.
Amazon says available roles will be posted on hiring.amazon.ca, with more positions posted on a “rolling basis” throughout the holiday season. The company says this comes amid a $78 million increase in pay increases in Canada this year, including raising the average hourly base wage by $1 to more than $26 per hour. In the U.S., Amazon says it will also hire over 300,000 workers for the holiday season.
Of course, the holidays will be an especially busy period for Amazon, although it remains to be seen whether demand will be more muted than usual given the continued rise in the cost of living.
