YouTube Music has added labels for songs that have been generated by AI.
Now, users will see a round icon that says AI right below the track name. YouTube says this label will be used on any content “where AI played a significant role.” This includes “using a generative model to create the composition and vocals,” notes YouTube. From there, you can tap the label to learn more information about how AI was used in the creation of the given song.
YouTube is the latest music streamer to introduce AI labels on its platform. In September, Spotify rolled out its own GenAI disclaimers, with Apple Music promising to do the same by the end of the year. Deezer also followed suit earlier this week. These moves come after major entertainment industry organizations like the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the Grammys, and SAG-AFTRA jointly called upon streamers to more clearly label AI music.
Overall, it’s always good to have more disclosure, especially where AI is concerned. In this day and age, more and more people want to be reassured that they’re supporting quality, ethically produced art instead of AI slop.
