Pixel owners (including myself) are reporting that their devices are not vibrating for incoming calls, even when vibrate mode is active.
The exact reports vary amongst different Reddit threads, but the essence of the issue remains the same; the device isn’t vibrating for phone calls, and the user only finds out from a missed call notification that shows silent mode is activated, despite vibration being on and no rules being enabled.
Other commentators are reporting that it comes from a wide variety of Pixel devices, not just one specific model. Personally, I think it is a bug that stems from the most recent Pixel update, as I’m experiencing it myself, and I always leave both my vibration mode and sound on.
I’m mainly experiencing it with Instagram, although when I was messing around with the potential fixes for the phone app, I discovered that my phone app was suffering from the problem as well, but I never noticed because my ringer is on.
Now, there are two reported fixes for the problem:
- Option 1: Go to settings > sound & vibration > vibration and haptics, slide the ring vibration all the way off, call the device and let it go to voicemail, slide it all the way back on again, and then call the device again. It should ring as normal.
- Option 2: Go to settings > notifications > app notifications > phone > incoming calls > check to see if the vibration is switched on. If not, there is your culprit.
Mine was solved by the second option (going into settings and checking if vibration was on), but different fixes could work as well.
Good news: the Pixel Support team is aware of the problem and has reached out to a few users to ask questions and look into it further, so a fix should be released in a patch update in the near future.
For now, though, if you are experiencing the problem, keep a watchful eye on your phone, or don’t leave your phone on vibrate only.
