Bell completed its $3.9 billion acquisition of MTS on March 17th. The carrier rebranded to Bell MTS and promised customers it would “maintain current MTS wireless price plans for at least 12 months after the closing.” This is still valid but there seem to be changes coming to the number of employees in the region.
While BCE has said it’s committed to investment more than $1 billion over the next five years in Manitoba to improve the province’s wireless network, Bell MTS is reportedly slashing up to 85 jobs in the province.
According to a report in the CBC, Bell MTS will hone in reducing staff specifically in its IT, network services and finance departments. Apparently, staff were notified on May 1st and offered voluntary departure incentives.
A Bell representative stated, “There will be new opportunities at Bell MTS as we roll out our major broadband investment plan and some departures at both Bell MTS and Bell Canada as we integrate our operations due to duplication in corporate and other roles.”
Bell recently announced its quarterly results and its wireless revenues jumped by 7.1 percent to $1.814 billion CAD. In addition, Bell now has 8,946,476 wireless subscribers, which includes 476,932 subscribers it acquired from MTS.
