WhatsApp will continue to support BBOS and BlackBerry 10 until June 2017

BlackBerry

After announcing earlier this year that it would cut support for BBOS and BlackBerry 10 by the end of 2016, WhatsApp has now pushed the deadline to June 30th, 2017. The news surfaced through alterations to the platform’s FAQ page and through an update to the BlackBerry 10 version of the app, spotted by CrackBerry

In addition to the reprieve for BlackBerry OS devices, WhatsApp will also extend support for the Nokia S40 and Nokia Symbian S60 platforms until June 30th. No such luck, however, for Android 2.1, Android 2.2, Windows Phone 7 and iPhone 3GS/iOS 6 operating systems, which will lose support at the “beginning of 2017.”

The app announced its decision to discontinue support in late February 2016, stating “As we look ahead to our next seven years, we want to focus our efforts on the mobile platforms the vast majority of people use.”
