When Google announced its initial onHub router earlier this year, one of the things that stood out about it was its minimal design. Well, it looks like Google thinks the OnHub can look even better, or at the very least, more personal.
This morning, the company launched a new initiative called OnHub Makers. Aimed at inspiring the average onHub owner to customize their router, the OnHub Makers website showcases how notable artists and designers from around the world have spruced up their OnHub router. One of the more interesting artist-made shells (seen below) turns the OnHub router into a charming mid-20th century apartment complete with a fire escape. Another turns the device into the router equivalent of a Sasquatch.
Besides being a place to find inspiration, Google has also uploaded a file to the site that includes everything needed to get started on their own DIY shell.
For those with a little less ambition, Google has plans to release a trio of shells for the TMP-made onHub router. Launching in the U.S. today, the shells are priced between US$29 and US$39.
We’ve reached out to the company to find out if they’re coming to Canada. We’ll update this post when we hear back.
Update: according to a Google spokesperson, the shells will only be sold in the U.S. for the time being. A bit of a bummer, but you can still make your own case.
