Several Canadian financial institutions rolled out mobile cheque deposit systems this year, including CIBC, TD Canada Trust, Tangerine, and RBC. This feature allows customers to avoid visiting a bank and instead deposit a cheque directly from their smartphone or tablet.
Scotiabank, Canada’s 3rd largest bank in terms of deposits and market capitalization, is generally quick to adopt new technology.
The company has confirmed that it has plans to bring mobile cheque deposits by the end of this year.
