Google may be preparing to launch an extended warranty program for Nexus devices

Nexus 6

Based on a newly found snippet of code found buried within its online store, Google may be preparing to launch an extended warranty program for the variety of Nexus devices it designs and sells.

The code, which was discovered by Android Police, references a product called “Nexus Protect”.”You can’t add this phone unless it has the same Nexus Protect choice as other phones in your cart. You can update your choice or purchase this phone in your next order,” says the hidden snippet.

Based on the wording of the text, it appears Google is set to differentiate its warranty package by offering to repair or replace multiple devices.

Beyond that, we know very little about the program.

As such, the standard caveats apply here. However, with Google reportedly set to reveal its new Nexus smartphones at the end of the month, there’s a good chance that if the company decides to announce the program, we’ll learn about it then.

Late last week images leaked of LG’s rumoured Nexus 5X smartphone.
