Canadian Tire Money was introduced in 1958, since then, hasn’t evolved much. The loyalty program ensures customers receive a small in-store reward based on the total receipt value which, until now, took the form of paper money, usually in $0.05 to $1.00 denominations. To date, over $1 billion Canadian Tire Money ‘notes’ have been circulated.
A new era has begun at Canadian Tire as the retailer has unveiled a new loyalty program, one that is emphasizes the digital economy and, at the same time, captures one’s shopping habits in a database. Canadian Tire Money is now called My Canadian Tire Money and focuses on making it easier to redeem “e-Canadian Tire Money” as in-store credit.
The program involves a My Canadian Tire card or mobile app, and includes a MasterCard option that offers the ability to collect up to 10 times more e-Canadian Tire dollars. The mobile app will be available cross platform — iOS, Android BlackBerry and Windows Phone — and allows users to view transactions and eCT money balance, check purchase history, and gain access to exclusive offers.
The new Canadian Tire Money loyalty program will launch in Nova Scotia on October 10th, rolling out nationally on October 28th.
