Nintendo’s new Alarmo clock will wake you up for the Switch 2 announcement

For the past several months, all eyes have been on Nintendo as we await the formal unveiling of its successor to the Switch. Some had even hoped we’d get an announcement this month, given that Nintendo dropped the first look at the original Switch in October 2016 ahead of a March 2017 launch.

Well, Nintendo has indeed revealed new hardware in October 2024, albeit a completely different product. Enter Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo, an official interactive alarm clock themed around Nintendo properties.

To start, the clock features 35 scenes inspired by popular Switch games The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 3, Pikmin 4 and Ring Fit Adventure. In a video, we see Pauline from Super Mario Odyssey singing fan-favourite “Jump Up Superstar!” while Mario’s voice and the classic coin sounds play in the background. Another example is rousing music from the Breath of the Wild overworld.

Using a motion sensor, Alarm will respond to your movement dynamically with sounds and get more intense the longer it takes for you to get up. The alarm will then stop once it recognizes you’ve gotten out of bed. Other features include calming sounds to help you unwind, Records to see how much you move during sleep and hourly chimes based on the aforementioned games.

Alarmo will launch in early 2025 for $129.99 CAD. Nintendo Switch Online members in the U.S. and Canada can now purchase the device early through the My Nintendo Store. Nintendo also says that those who link their Nintendo Accounts will also be able to download bonus scenes from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons via free future updates.

It remains to be seen when we’ll actually get the Switch 2, with Nintendo only confirming a reveal will happen before its fiscal year ends in March 2025. But hey, at least Alarmo will make sure you’re up and ready for that day when it comes.
