Netflix has announced the launch of Fast.com, a free tool that anyone can use to check the speed of their internet connection. The site is one minimal page that clocks your internet’s speed immediately upon opening. It also offers a link to check the result agains speedtest.net.
Netflix states that its main ambition in launching the tool globally is to give consumers greater insight and control over their Internet service by checking the speeds they are receiving against what they were promised by their Internet service providers.
The release notes that Fast.com is not the same as its Netflix ISP Speed Index, stating: “Fast.com measures your personal Internet connection at any given time. The speed index measures average monthly speeds of actual Netflix streams during prime time hours.”
