Ericsson to build out the EastLink Wireless network (launching sometime in 2012)

EastLink will be launching their “world class wireless network” in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island sometime next year. No confirmed dates as of yet but today the company announced that Ericsson has been chosen to help them build out their network.

A press release this morning stated that the “The RBS 6000 is a multi-standard radio base station which supports GSM/EDGE, WCDMA/HSPA and LTE, providing a cost-effective deployment for next-generation high-speed mobile broadband, video, and web application services while providing subscribers with a superior user experience.”

Competition in wireless is an everyday challenge for the carriers, specifically fierce in Quebec, Vancouver and Saskatchewan with all sorts of Unlimited rate plans. Next year the East coast will hopefully benefit and put the heat on Rogers, Bell and TELUS.

Matthew MacLellan, President, EastLink Wireless, said “With this network evolution, our customers will be able to work and communicate more reliably and faster than ever before.”

This is also the first time that the “EastLink Wireless” name has been used… so this will probably be what you can expect them to launch with. Not a far stretch by any means. EastLinkWireless.com and EastLinkWireless.ca have been purchased by EastLink too.
