Chipmaker TSMC, which supplies chips to several major tech companies including Apple, is planning to raise prices by as much as 10 per cent in 2027.

According to a new report from Nikkei Asiathe Taiwanese chipmaker held talks with clients about base price increases between five and 10 per cent. These increases will cover both mature nodes and the more advanced processes at 7 nanometers (nm) and below that Apple uses for its A- and M-series chips.

The negotiations began in June and were finalized this month, with the new pricing set to come in at the start of 2027.

Moreover, customers who place additional high-performance computing orders beyond their original forecasts will face a further 10 to 15 per cent premium, which could lead to some advanced chip orders costing more than 10 per cent extra overall.

The increased prices reportedly reflect rising costs for materials, manufacturing equipment, and the construction of new overseas chip plants.

Reportedly, TSMC decided to delay the hikes until 2027 in order to give customers time to adjust following negotiations.

To add some context, Apple is one of TSMC’s largest customers, along with Qualcomm, AMD, Nvidia, Intel, and more.

Back in February, reporting revealed that Apple could expand its chip production beyond TSMC, with a report from The Wall Street Journal mentioning that Intel could supply lower-end chips to Apple starting in either 2027 or 2028.
