Loblaw says a "criminal third-party" accessed basic customer information

Loblaw logs out all customers after ‘low-level’ data breach

Loblaw Companies is investigating a “low-level” data breach and has logged all customers out of their accounts.

Per details Loblaw published on March 10, the company identified “suspicious activity on a contained, non-critical part of its IT network,” and “determined that a criminal third-party accessed some basic customer information such as names, phone numbers, and email addresses.”

Loblaw says that its investigation indicates the breach did not compromise passwords, health information, or credit card data. It also says PC Financial was not impacted by the breach.

“All customers will be automatically logged out of their accounts,” Loblaw said, noting that customers will need to log back into their accounts to access its digital services.

Loblaw Companies operates several grocery stores and pharmacies in Canada, including Loblaws, No Frills, Real Canadian Superstore, Zehrs, Fortinos, Shoppers Drug Mart, and more. It also employs over 220,000 Canadians.
