LG G6 vs. LG G5: What’s the difference?

Following the modular G5, LG has returned to the smartphone market in 2017 with the G6. The company was not shy on details prior to the device’s official announcement at Mobile World Congress, and has no revealed plans to officially release the flagship Android in Canada this April.

In a previous teaser, LG hired known industrial designer Torsten Valeur who stated the G6 will feature “minimalistic design elements” and will be “perfectly smooth to touch.” In addition, Valuer noted LG made a smartphone with “a metal frame that wraps around the perimeter” that’s “perfectly flat” and does not feature a camera bump.

The LG G6 features a metal build with a curved 5.7-inch 2880 x 1440 pixel Quad HD+ LCD display (564ppi) and is said to be the first smartphone screen with an ultra wide ‘Full Vision’ 18:9 aspect ratio. LG also claims that G6 owners will experience the “best smartphone sound” thanks to the device’s upgraded 32-bit Quad-DAC (digital-to-analog converter), high-end audio technology that’s also featured in the company’s V20. However, this feature is only available to those in Korea.

Following the success of the G5’s camera, one of the smartphones more positively received features, LG is improving the G6’s photography functionality by equipping the smartphone with dual 13-megapixel shooters with 125-degree wide-angle lenses.

During the G6’s reveal press conference in Barcelona, Spain at Mobile World Congress, Juno Cho, LG’s CEO of LG Mobile Communication, stated that the company’s next smartphone features a “big screen that fits in your hand.”

The design concepts found in the G6 will also apply to future devices in LG’s lineup, said Cho during the presentation.

Canadians will be able to purchase the G6 in April (rumoured date is April 7th) through several carriers. Unfortunately, the pricing for the G6 has not been confirmed. In addition, it seems Canadians will only have the choice of the Ice Platinum or Astro Black variant, but the Mystic White will not be arriving.
