Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey to interview Edward Snowden today on Periscope

At 12:05 pm ET today, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey will interview NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden on Periscope.

Dorsey will ask questions submitted to him over Twitter. Users in Canada, the U.S. and abroad can submit their questions for consideration via the #AskSnowden hashtag. Canadians can watch the entire event via the @PardonSnowden handle.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), one of the organizations behind the Pardon Snowden campaign, organized the livestream. Launched alongside the Oliver Stone-directed biopic this past September, the Pardon Snowden movement seeks to get President Obama to offer Snowden clemency before he leaves the Oval Office this January.

In September, Dorsey tweeted his support for the campaign.

While he’s most famous for the information he provided the world on the NSA’s mass surveillance efforts, Snowden has also had a lot to say about the Canadian government’s efforts to spy on its citizens.

In an interview in March of 2015, Snowden called Bill C-51, not yet passed into law at that point, “an emulation of the American Patriot Act,” adding Canada has some of the “weakest oversights” frameworks for intelligence gathering in the Western world. Those claims were proven true this past November when a federal judge ruled the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) had been spying and retaining data on Canadian citizens illegally for a decade.
