New OnePlus smartphones will continue to incorporate Optic AMOLED displays ‘for the foreseeable future’

All upcoming OnePlus smartphones will feature Optic AMOLED panels “for the foreseeable future,” according to OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei.

Pei delivered the news in a tweet early this morning.

In subsequent tweets, Pei said OnePlus is actively working to improve its take on AMOLED panels.

When the OnePlus 3 first launched, the device’s Optic AMOLED panel was criticized for poor colour accuracy. In many cases, colours appeared over saturated. An OTA update later added a sRBG display mode that helped address many of the display’s issues.

Rumours began to swirl that OnePlus might discontinue the OnePlus3 after long order wait times began to form due to a supposed AMOLED shortage. Co-founder Carl Pei took to the company’s own forums to assuage fears that OnePlus was losing confidence in its product.

“Demand for AMOLED is higher in 2016 than what the industry has planned for, after an overall weaker than expected AMOLED demand in 2015. Factory capacity was cut as a result of this. Thus, leads times have increased dramatically,” Pei stated.
