Why did Mickey cross the road?
So that he could be in Crossy Road, obviously.
Starting today, iOS and Android users can download a new version of the hit frogger-like game that includes Disney characters and themed levels.
If this new addition to the Crossy Road series looks like a quick cash grab, it’s not.
In an interview with The Verge, Hipster Whale, the game’s developer, revealed it spent much of the past year working on the game with Disney. By contrast, the original Crossy Road took a team of three developers within Hipster Whale 12 weeks to create.
The result is a much bigger game.
In all, there are now 150 characters for players to collect — with of many of them coming from some of Disney’s most beloved franchises, including the Lion King, Toy Story and Tangled. Moreover, Hipster Whale used this opportunity to add new gameplay mechanics to its game. In a level inspired by the Lion King, for instance, players try to guide their character past stampeding animals instead of cars. Another level inspired by Inside Out has players collecting colourful memory orbs.
