HTC hasn’t had the best luck making a profit in the past few years, so its quarterly financial results are worth following, despite a notable lack of disclosure on total device sales. The company released its Q3 2014 financial results this week for the period ending September 30th, 2014, posting a quarterly revenue of NT$41.86 billion (approximately $1.54 billion CAD), but only an operating profit of NT$0.16 billion (a little under $6 million CAD). HTC’s net profit before tax for the quarter was NT$0.64 billion ($23.6 million CAD), and net profit after tax was NT$0.64 billion ($23.6 million CAD), or NT$0.78 per share.
While these numbers are lower than Q2’s results (a profit of NT$2.26 billion), that quarter also saw the release of the great HTC One M8, and year-over-year, HTC has shown great improvement, as the company posted a net loss in Q3 2013. However, the company must still be concerned about its inability to pull anything more than razor thin profits from its quarterly revenue. It’s unlikely that the rumoured Nexus 9 tablet will effect significant change.
