Videotron has been patiently building up their business in Quebec. The company basically has a stronghold and dominates the market – one that sees them in all facets of media (TV, Home Phone, Cable, Internet and Wireless).

According to parent-company Quebecor Q1 2013 results, Videotron has, for the first time since launching their new HSPA+ wireless network, “passed the break-even point.” It could have been their new $55/month plan that accounted for the increase in subscribers, or their new Netflix-competitor “illico Club Unlimited” on demand video service.

Videotron added 18,300 subscribers to their wireless business, now totalling 420,900. In addition, the company declared that illico Club Unlimited has amassed 40,000 subscribers since launching in February and that illico has passed the 700,000-subscriber mark.

Robert Dépatie, President and CEO of Quebecor and of Quebecor Media, stated “We are very satisfied with Videotron’s results, which continued showing healthy improvement in the first quarter of 2013… In the first quarter of 2013, a little more than two years after its launch, the mobile service passed the break-even point, based on operating income, a very strong performance given the highly competitive environment.”

Videotron used to take forever to launch new devices, but since going live with their new wireless service they’ve managed to release all the latest smartphone on the same day, or within days of the bigger wireless carriers. The latest devices to come to Videotron are the Samsung Galaxy S4, BlackBerry Z10 and the Sony Xperia ZL.
