Bloomberg: iOS 7 to shun “realistic images” and will be a complete “software overhaul”

When Apple announced the dates of their Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) a couple weeks ago they confirmed the rumours of a refresh to iOS. Phil Schiller, Apple’s SVP of Worldwide Marketing, stated “Our developers have had the most prolific and profitable year ever, and we’re excited to show them the latest advances in software technologies and developer tools to help them create innovative new apps. We can’t wait to get new versions of iOS and OS X into their hands at WWDC.”

Bloomberg is jumping on the rumour train as their “people with knowledge of the matter” have said that Jony Ive, Apple’s SVP of Industrial Design, has “embarked on a sweeping software overhaul” that will include the “introduction of new features, along with an emphasis on cooperation and deliberation.” Previous rumours have pointed towards iOS 7 to have a “flat” design and apparently look somewhat similar to Microsoft’s Windows Phone OS. Ive has reportedly began “shunning realistic images, such as wood bookshelves for the Newsstand feature, and he’s exploring more dramatic changes to the e-mail and calendar tools.”

Another future feature to come to iOS could be guestures. Bloomberg reported that Ive “has shown interest” and “has met with makers of gesture technology that lets people navigate their gadgets by moving their hands — without touching the screen.” Samsung already has this built into the Galaxy S4 with “Smart Scroll and Smart Pause.”

Apple’s WWDC 2013 will take place between June 10th – June 14th in San Francisco.
