Apple’s Mac computers are known for being on the pricey side, and the ongoing memory and component shortage caused by AI data centres and other issues hasn’t helped. Still, the company’s new maxed-out Mac Studio spec is… well, it costs as much as a new car.
$44,898.98, to be exact. Here’s the breakdown:
- In Canada, the Mac Studio M5 Ultra starts at $7,799.
- The 36-core CPU, 80-core GPU is $1,950, bringing your total to $9,749.
- Now this is the big money. If you want 512GB of RAM, it’s $23,250, bringing your total to $32,999.
- 16TB of storage costs $11,250, bringing your total to $44,249.
- And if you want to add some software like Final Cut Pro pre-installed, it’s $399.99, and Logic Pro pre-installed costs $249.99.
- Bringing your total to $44,898.98 or $2,030.20/mo for 24 months at 7.99 per cent APR.
While fun to point at the big, crazy number and have a laugh, this isn’t a purchase most people will make.
A fully loaded Mac like this might make sense for high-level video work, 3D modelling, locally run AI workloads, and other stuff that requires huge amounts of memory.
