Update: Nexus 4 Wireless Charger arrives on Google Play Canada, but “is not available in your country”

  • rockman

    I’d buy it… but I don’t want to pay for it 🙂

I’m happy with my wire and $59.99 in my back pocket 🙂

    Cool device though.

    • hwllonewwoeld

My cousin in India already had this since the nexus 4 launch.

    • theMediaman

Odd to price it so high when the main selling point of the phone was it’s low price.

    • Still Getting a Nexus

Do you have to remove the case from the phone?

How long does it take to charge the phone via MicroUSB?

    • Still Getting a Nexus

It looks “Cool” but my phones last because I never remove the case. I’m not going to do that to use the orb; in addition to that it looks like it will take longer than the normal cable.

-This product doesn’t cover my needs. I’ll pass.

  • Canucks4Life

Just curious does the phone need to be powered on for wireless charging?

    • Francis Thibault

I would assume not since I can charge my Nexus 4 while it’s off

  • DK

I have a thin case on my nexus. I dont want to be taking it off every time I use the charging orb. I wonder if it would still work with a case?

    • Fruvous

It will charge through cases depending on the thickness. The thicker it is the slower it will charge and eventually it won’t work if it is super thick.

    • Fruvous

That didn’t come out right… Need an edit function!

The case will affect charging speed, the thicker it is the slower the charging will be but if your case is too thick then your phone won’t charge. Silicone should be fine but metal cases will cause issues.

  • BS Detector

What if your n4 has a silicone case that covers the back? Will it charge through that?

  • Superfly

It will not work with any case on

  • Francis Thibault

Is it battery widget reborn that I am seeing there 🙂

  • jorvay

For $60, I’d like to have seen them at least design it with some sort of cable management. Having a cording winding randomly around my desk/counter/table to a charging dock isn’t really that much nicer than running it directly to the phone. Sure it’s still handy, but certainly not $60 handy.

  • Steve

I wonder if LG Optimus G will be compatible.. After all, they are literally the same products.

    • S2556

It is compatible with all qi certified devices so pretty much any new phone released with wireless charging should work

  • Kyle

Great to see this OEM charger hitting the shelves… Hear that Samsung!!! Where is your S3 wireless charging??? lol.

To people asking about cases – it might charge with a case. I have a palm pre induction coil in my S3 back cover, and with the OEM Samsung slim case back, it still charges fine on the touchstone – but slower and without as much ‘magnatism’ as without.

  • Drea

I would by 3 of these if the price was lower but at $200 incl tax and shipping for the three… no thanks. I’ll just stick to the cable and wait for them to show up at dx.

  • FletchMan

Argggh, I want this now! Hurry up, Google!

  • EvanKr

Doesn’t the N4 use the Qi standard? Why not just pick up a cheap 3rd party alternative like an Energizer mat, or even a Lumia 920 pad off of eBay?

    • Kody

I haven’t seen any Qi chargers available for much cheaper than this. Maybe $10 or so, but this one looks nicer and having the phone at an angle is nicer than flat.

  • Dalex

For 60$ it should have an embedded speaker and touchscreen controls for it.

    • whoodaaaaaaaaaaaat

lol how about to ask them to send u a Nexus with it for 60$.. I agree it is expensive but I don’t expect it to come with a screen and speakers lol

  • kevin

they price the phone low…and now they’re going to make up the extra profit off accessories…like most manufacturers.

This charger was designed to be used with the bumper and all of Googles OEM accessories.

  • cg

They really should have found a way to make this cheaper!

  • Haxor99

Why wouldn’t they make this into a proper dock? What if I want to charge and watch a movie at the same time?

  • Kida

    To answer a few questions/comments:
-Yes, it uses the QI standard.
-Have you priced a charger recently? They’re all pretty close to $60. (The Lumia charger doesn’t reliably work for the N4, for some reason, so avoid).
-The point is less to eliminate cables, and more to save your microUSB port. My Nexus S started having port problems (the most fragile part of most smartphones).
-and yes, the point of the N4 was cheapness. Accessories, on the other hand, are not. (Just look at the OEM bumper.)

  • AbeZ

Id buy this if it was $20 dollars cheaper. Im still interested in it but i may wait till i find it cheaper elsewhere. Or maybe someone can buy it for me as a bday gift in May : )

  • PXY

I personally would not mind spending my money on the orb. I completely understand how the price affects different people with different financial situations but hey, another nice looking accessory for the market.

  • whatever

Lumia charger worked fine with mine

  • MrMastodonFarm

Man, people are greedy. Google has an unreal price for one of the best phones on the market, and they’re mad because they don’t do the same for the charger?

    learn to appreciate things people.

  • IronSean

Currently they’ve updated the text to say this:
“Nexus 4 Wireless Charger is not available in your country.”

Anyone hear any news about when Canada might get it?

  • TheOtherSide

Unless Canadians make a big stink about it – never…

  • wotzit2ya

    $19.99 or GTFO

  • hoo dat

“Update: For us Canadians who want the Nexus 4 Wireless Charger might have to wait a bit longer to order from Google Play as they now list is as “not available in your country.” ”

Google really has no clue when it comes to retailing its own products. Right from the Nexus One onwards the have done nothing but trip’ stumble and goof things up left right and centre. The most successful Nexus phone to date was the Galaxy Nexus, they should look to Samsung for pointers or possibly another partnership.

  • A.J. Salvo

Yet another way Canadians get screwed over for merchandise/content readily available to our brothers South.
