Here’s a rumour that has the upcoming “iPad 2” numbers skyrocketing. Overseas reports from DigiTimes state that Apple has added two additional touch panel makers for the upcoming tablet. Now there are 5 in total: Chimei Innolux, Cando, Wintek, Sintek Photronics, and TPK Touch Solutions and according to the report “Apple’s orders of iPad 2 are expected to top six million units a month compared to a volume of four million units a quarter for the current version, pushing Apple to expand the number of touch panel suppliers”.
The next generation iPad is expected to have a better display with a front facing camera for FaceTime video calling, shipping is estimated to begin early January 2011 with availability sometime in April.
6 million a month? If this is true then 2011 will be the year of the Tablet…
