Sony has expanded their Xperia lineup and officially introduced the Xperia Z Ultra. This is tremendously bigger than any previous smartphone the company has launched and the display, as expected, is 6.4-inches. This new phone/tablet is “the world’s largest Full HD smartphone display” and the resolution is 1,920 x 1,080 and brings Sony’s “Triluminos” to the smartphone, promising “the most immersive viewing experience imaginable” and allows “rich, authentic color, and excellent red and green reproduction.”
The LTE-enabled Xperia Z Ultra also packs a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 chip, 8MP camera with “Exmor RS for mobile” sensor and a 2MP front-facing camera. Similar to the Galaxy Note, the Xperia Ultra also brings back the stylus to life, plus is IP55/IP58 certified and is waterproof, resistant and is only 6.5mm thin with a weight of 212 grams. Pretty impressive specs.
The Xperia Z Ultra runs Android OS 4.2 Jelly Bean, comes in black, white or purple and “will launch globally from Q3 2013,” probably in September. No word yet on a Canadian launch as the press release stated that “exact timing of availability will vary by market.”
