Chinese car company BYD has added ‘Coming Soon’ to its Canadian website, alongside job postings for 11 management roles.
On BYD’s website, Canada appears in the ‘American Region’ alongside Mexico, Brazil, and other Caribbean and Latin American markets. BYD also notes that it is present in more than 120 countries across six continents.
Now, the webpage doesn’t have any models, prices, dealer locations, an ordering function, or a launch date as of writing. However, as Electric Vehicles spotted, the contact details list BYD Canada Company Limited at 60 Travail Road in Markham.
Interestingly, the job postings that were found on LinkedIn include a head of sales, a sales manager, a marketing manager, a network development manager, an operations planning specialist, a legal counsel, and a human resources and administration manager. According to Electric Vehicles, three of those jobs were listed as actively reviewing applicants.
Interestingly, roles posted in Vancouver are listed as remote and appear under a separate Canadian entity; meanwhile, roles in Toronto are on-site, suggesting a head office.
There are also two things related to its automotive business shown off on its website: the FLASH charging system and its e4 platform. The charging system is advertised as being able to charge a battery from 10 per cent to 70 per cent in just 5 minutes, reaching 97 percent in only 9 minutes. In low-temperature performance, BYD says the duration from 20 per cent to 97 per cent only increases by a mere three minutes compared to room temperature.
The e4 platform, on the other hand, details an active safety system, integration with its second-gen “Blade” battery, and high-voltage Silicon Carbide Scaling.
It also lists the DMO hybrid system, which is paired with the 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, although it is unclear whether it will come to Canada.
This honestly doesn’t give us any new info, but it does show that we are getting closer to seeing BYD make its debut in Canada. I’m curious about the hybrid powertrain and if it makes a Canadian debut, mainly because I think that will be a way to sway traditional car buyers.
