The September Pixel Drop is here! The automatic software update should be hitting your phone soon, but some features will roll out over the coming weeks.
Google has updated Pixel VIPs, so you can stay better connected with your ‘VIP’ contacts. The expanded widget lets you use quick actions to send a call or text to your VIP contacts from your home screen. And there’s a new glanceable notification badge so you never miss an urgent message.
There’s also Harry Potter Audiobook Packs celebrating the launch of the full-cast audio editions on Audible. You can also change your wallpapers, icons and sounds with elements from the book and get a two-month Audible free trial. This is kind of like a crazy promotion for Harry Potter, which is pretty odd considering the scrutiny of the book series’ author. The Harry Potter Audiobook Packs are available until December 31, with the Audible offer available until January 14.
A new Scam Detection feature is coming to Canada. Scam Detection in notifications automatically flags suspicious incoming chat notifications with a “Likely scam” warning before you open the message. There’s also Scam Detection in Gboard, which will give you a ” Likely scam ” warning if you’re responding to a suspicious message, but this is U.S. only for now.
And Pause Point, which was first introduced on Pixel 11, is coming to Pixel 6 and newer devices. Pause Point helps you cut down on unintentional app use by adding a pause before opening distracting apps.
The Pixel Drop and all these new features will be coming to all Pixel smartphones from the Pixel 6 and later — but none are hitting the Pixel Tablet.
